The new, seven-story Fabrik8 Mile-Ex location features 29 closed offices capable of accommodating one to 25 people; four fully equipped video-conferencing rooms; a classroom; and amenities such as a lounge, two break rooms, a game room, and a rooftop hockey rink. A recently-added Xilica audio system across the building delivers sound reinforcement to support critical communication. Â
Challenge
Fabrik8 wanted to give building occupants the ability to communicate more clearly across the commercial property – in common areas, conference rooms and classrooms. Any pop-up events that were held had to tap in to the building’s existing audio system to reduce expenditure for each event, and large-scale audio management was needed for the multiple floors, zones and use-cases. Â
Solution
Two rack-mounted Xilica Solaro FR1-Ds DSPs are located in the building’s IT datacenter, handling property-wide audio distribution and routing, including for office spaces, conference rooms and training facilities. With integrated 64×64 Dante audio networking, the Solaro FR1-Ds can deploy audio signals from any input to any room around the facility – conferencing to classroom. Additionally, when temporary pop-ups hit Fabrik8, the existing installed infrastructure can easily be tapped into without the need for a separate portable PA. Â
Fabrik8 was also impressed with the modularity and expansion features of the Solaro platform, and added Solaro XIO 16 expansion frames to support significant power amplifier banks that drive loudspeakers throughout the campus.Â
Approximately 30 Xilica XTouch touch control surfaces give users secure access to the system, eliminating the need for third-party control processors and expensive touch panels. XTouch operates from the Solaro Series’ integrated control engines, with pre-built modules for select Technology Vendor Partners. Â
Impact
Fabrik8’s tenants are enjoying the simplicity of their new space: great, easy-to-use audio systems that are heard, not seen, and flexible to enable changes in requirements or combining spaces together. Clear, unambiguous user control through XTouch touch panels is the ideal compliment to a powerful new networked AV system that delivers.Â
